The Illinois Farmers Market Association has appointed Libby Ervin as its new executive director, with her role set to begin on May 18. This leadership change marks an important step for the organization as it continues to support farmers markets across the state.
Libby Ervin has been closely connected with the association for several years. She served as the board president since 2023, where she played a key role in guiding the organization. During her time as board president, she worked on important areas such as strategic planning, increasing membership, handling budget challenges, and building partnerships with state agencies. Her active involvement has given her a strong understanding of how the organization operates.
Ervin brings eight years of valuable experience in nonprofit work and food systems. This background has helped her gain knowledge about local food networks and the importance of farmers markets in communities. Along with her professional work, she and her husband run a specialty food store called Glaciers End in Marion. This business allows her to stay connected with local producers and customers.
In addition, Ervin manages the Southern Illinois Link Hub. Through this role, she supports 11 farmers markets in the region. Her work helps farmers connect with buyers and ensures that fresh, local food reaches more people. This experience has strengthened her ability to understand the needs of both farmers and consumers.
Ervin is committed to improving farmers markets by making them stronger economic centers for growers. She also aims to increase access to fresh, healthy, and locally produced food. Her leadership is expected to support both farmers and communities across Illinois.
The board believes that her knowledge, experience, and strong relationships make her the right choice for this position. As executive director, she will lead the organization into its next phase of growth and development while continuing to promote the importance of farmers markets in the state.
