The Illinois Farmers Council recently met with U.S. Senator Richard Durbin and U.S. Representative Johnathan Jackson (IL-1) in Bloomington, Ill., to discuss the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill.
During the meeting, Senator Durbin made it clear that crop insurance is a top priority in the new Farm Bill. He said that crop insurance is like a strong foundation on which the whole bill will be built.
Besides talking about the Farm Bill, the group also talked about other important farming topics. They discussed how the recent ruling on Proposition 12 by the Supreme Court might affect them, and they stressed the need for better rural broadband access.
It was a great opportunity for Illinois farmers to share their concerns with Senator Durbin and Rep. Jackson. Matt Rush, who is the President of both the IL Corn Growers Association and the Illinois Farmers Council, appreciated the support and attentiveness of the two leaders.
The Illinois Farmers Council is made up of different agriculture-related associations from all over the state. They represent farm families, commodities, and the livestock industry. Some of the notable members include the IL Corn Growers Association, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Soybean Association, Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Pork Association, and the Illinois Milk Producers Association.
