An initiative led by the Illinois Farm Bureau is making a significant impact in addressing food insecurity across the state.
The Young Leaders program, part of the Illinois Farm Bureau, has been actively involved in the Harvest for All initiative, organized by the American Farm Bureau Federation.
Vanessa Wright, coordinator of the Young Leaders program, highlighted the initiative's multifaceted approach. “Proceeds are directed to various food pantries, banks, and collegiate farm bureau chapters supporting campus food pantries,” said Wright.
The group recently received recognition from the Illinois Farm Bureau for their efforts in hunger relief. Carroll County Farm Bureau Young Leaders earned top honors in the Harvest for All Top Contributors awards. They were commended for exceptional fundraising efforts and volunteer hours.
Victoria Hansen, Carroll County manager, expressed gratitude to the volunteers and farmers supporting the program. “Our Young Leader volunteers and the generous farmers supporting this cause are the backbone of this initiative,” Hansen noted. Over nearly two decades, the group has raised close to $500,000 by engaging farmers in donating grain. The proceeds, generated by selling the grain to local elevators, benefit local food pantries.
The Illinois Farm Bureau, a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation, represents the collective voices of farmers and ranchers. Established in 1916, IFB is a nonprofit, member-driven organization dedicated to representing farmers who join through their county Farm Bureau.
With a membership exceeding 364,452, including nearly 76,000 farmer members, IFB remains a strong advocate for Illinois farmers.
