Illinois agronomy summits for smarter farming

Farmers across Illinois can explore valuable insights at the upcoming Agronomy Summits hosted by the University of Illinois Extension.

With six in-person events scheduled for January 2025, these summits aim to deliver the latest research updates, tools, and management strategies to help farmers succeed.

Expanding from a single event in 2024 to six across the state, the summits offer sessions led by crop science experts from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and other professionals.

Topics include soil health, pest and weed management, and crop market trends, tailored to address local agricultural challenges.

Emily Hansen, an Extension commercial agriculture educator, highlights the focus on connecting with farmers directly. "We’re excited to offer customized sessions using local data and foster meaningful discussions with familiar faces," she says.

Attendees can choose from the following events:

Peoria Agronomy Summit: East Peoria, Jan. 14, $40. Register by Jan. 7.

Southwestern Agronomy Summit: Waterloo, Jan. 16, $25. Register by Jan. 10.

Springfield Agronomy Summit: Springfield, Jan. 21, $30. Register by Jan. 14.

Oglesby Agronomy Summit: Oglesby, Jan. 23, $25. Register by Jan. 16.

Southeastern Agronomy Summit: Albion, Jan. 28, free. Register by Jan. 21.

Northwest Illinois Agronomy Summit: Freeport, Jan. 29, $25. Register by Jan. 22.

Each summit includes expert presentations, networking opportunities, light refreshments, and lunch. Continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisers are also available.

Farmers attending the Agronomy Summits will gain research-backed insights, practical resources, and strengthened community connections to support their farm management decisions.
