Biomanufacturing Leaders Unite for Future Growth

Biomanufacturing Leaders Unite for Future Growth

By Andi Anderson

The AGCO Training Center at Parkland College will host the first iFAB Biomanufacturing Summit on March 11. The event will bring together industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the future of biomanufacturing and precision fermentation. The summit will take place during the 7th Annual Champaign-Urbana AgTech Week and will include panels, fireside chats, and innovation showcases.

Parkland College leaders highlighted the importance of hosting the summit and supporting workforce development in growing industries.

"We are excited the inaugural iFAB Biomanufacturing Summit will happen right here at Parkland College in our AGCO Training Center," Parkland President Pam Lau said. "This event speaks to our mission of preparing students to go directly into the workforce, and a critical part of that work is partnering with employers to make our curriculum relevant. We look forward to this collaboration and growth for our students and community in the years to come."

More than 300 participants are expected to attend the summit. Discussions will focus on how precision fermentation, bioprocessing, and agricultural innovation can help strengthen national security, expand economic growth, and increase domestic manufacturing capacity.

Panel sessions will explore several important topics. These include building future biomanufacturing facilities, scaling products for U.S. markets, and strengthening biotechnology at the national level.

Other discussions will examine the role of precision fermentation in producing sustainable food ingredients and how domestic manufacturing can transform agricultural inputs into commercial products. Another key focus will be developing and supporting the future workforce needed for the growing biomanufacturing industry.

"Parkland is proud to come alongside anchor institutions like the University of Illinois and our corporate partners to join the iFAB Tech Hub to help grow this industry and help our region become the global leader in precision fermentation and biomanufacturing," Parkland Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Innovation/Chief Communications Officer Stephanie Stuart said. "We see ourselves as a critical link in the long chain of different partners that will help make this effort successful."

The summit will also include fireside chats with community leaders and industry partners. Speakers will include Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, Deputy Governor Andy Manar, and representatives from several major companies and organizations.

"As part of our annual Champaign-Urbana AgTech Week, we’re thrilled to welcome hundreds of biomanufacturing industry partners and stakeholders to our inaugural summit," iFab Tech Hub Chief Partnerships Officer Carly McCrory-McKay said. "This event will highlight the critical role biomanufacturing and precision fermentation play in driving economic growth, strengthening domestic supply chains, and creating high-quality jobs. By bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers, this summit reinforces iFAB’s commitment to leading the next era of U.S. biomanufacturing from the heart of Central Illinois."

During AgTech Week, Parkland College will also host an AgTech Showcase on March 12. The free event will give high school students hands-on opportunities to explore agriculture and diesel technology programs while connecting with industry employers.
