Three Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering students received $1,500 scholarships at the 62nd annual Illinois Professional Land Surveyor's Association (IPLSA) Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield.

Austin Mattingly, a junior from Marshall, is majoring in construction management with a land surveying specialization. He has completed three internships with the Illinois Department of Transportation, District 5. He plans to obtain a professional land surveyors license and would like to work under a licensed surveyor. The Illinois Professional Land Surveyor's Foundation sponsored Mattingly's award.

Mattingly was thankful to be selected. "This scholarship will allow me to obtain my degree with a little less money owed for tuition, fuel and food, while I continue my education," he said.

Senior Dylan Mueller, of Nashville, Illinois, is a construction management major. He has worked at API Survey LLC for the past three years during the summer and holiday breaks. He plans to become a professional land surveyor. Mueller's award was sponsored by Seiler Instrument.

Freshman Adam Sullivan, of Palmer, is majoring in construction management with a land surveying specialization. He is a first-generation college student, so the scholarship is helping fund his dream. The IPLSA Chicago Chapter sponsored Sullivan's scholarship.

Sullivan noted that the scholarship will help with expenses in fall 2019. "I am extremely appreciative of this award as it will help towards my goal of receiving an education," he said.

IPLSA is a not-for-profit organization representing the interests of the surveying profession in Illinois. Its mission includes the advancement of the land surveying profession by promoting high standards of practice and conduct, by upholding the Illinois Land Surveyors Act, and by supporting and encouraging members through continuing education, professional association, and the use of current technology.
