Illinois Hog Inventory Down 2 Percent from 2019

Illinois inventory of all hogs and pigs on September 1, 2020 was 5.40 million head, down 2 percent from June 1, 2020 and down 2 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 580,000 head, was up 10,000 from the previous quarter but down 10,000 from last year.

Market hog inventory, at 4.82 million head, was down 2 percent from last quarter and down 2 percent from last year.

The June-August 2020 pig crop, at 3.05 million head, was down 4 percent from 2019. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 285,000 head, down 5,000 from a year ago.

The average pigs saved per litter was 10.70 for the June-August period, compared with 10.95 last year.
