Parkland College is inviting agriculture students to showcase their skills at the upcoming Agronomy Career Development Event (CDE) Invitational.
The event will take place on Thursday, November 13, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Tony Noel Agricultural Tech Center, located in the W Building on campus.
Check-in will start at 3:00 p.m., giving teams time to prepare for an exciting and educational competition. Participants and teams must register by Monday, November 10, at 9:00 p.m.
Registration is free and can be completed through the official event link. Organizers encourage early sign-ups to ensure an accurate headcount for planning, as pizza will be provided for all attendees.
The Agronomy CDE Invitational aims to give students real-world experience in crop science and farm management through a series of competitive exercises. The contest will follow all state agronomy rules and include a written test based on state guidelines.
Participants will also take part in identification of practicums involving crops, weeds, equipment, and insects, along with two judging rings that test their practical evaluation skills.
This hands-on experience is designed to help students deepen their agricultural knowledge and teamwork skills while connecting with peers who share similar interests in agronomy.
Faculty coordinator Charlie Mitsdarfer will lead the event and encourages participation from schools across the region.
For more information or questions about the event, participants can contact Charlie Mitsdarfer at cmitsdarfer@parkland.edu or call 217-621-7717.
The Agronomy CDE Invitational offers a valuable opportunity for students to put their classroom learning into practice, develop professional confidence, and celebrate their passion for agriculture in a friendly and educational environment.
