Highland Community College in Freeport will host the Northwest Illinois Agronomy Summit on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. This annual event, organized by the University of Illinois Extension, gathers farmers, agronomists, researchers, and agricultural professionals to explore the latest trends and innovations in agriculture.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. at the Highland Community College Conference Center, the summit will feature expert presentations and research updates on critical topics like pest and weed control, soil health and fertility, precision agriculture, sustainable farming, and market trends.
Key Presentation Highlights:
“Biologicals in Illinois Row Crops”: Connor Sible, research assistant professor at the University of Illinois, will discuss advancements in biological solutions for corn and soybean management.
“Optimizing Corn Response to N”: John Jones, an assistant professor specializing in soil fertility, will share insights on managing phosphorus and potassium in northern Illinois soils.
“Weed Management in 2025”: Aaron Hager, a professor of weed science, will explore resistance mitigation strategies and effective weed management techniques.
Agriculture Program Updates: Justin Ebert, Highland’s agriculture instructor, will highlight the college’s agriculture program, including research plots and new subsoil irrigation systems.
