Gardeners can extend their fall gardening plans with the University of Illinois Extension’s Four Seasons Gardening webinar series. This educational series is designed to help home gardeners continue learning and improving their gardening skills during the cooler months.
The fall session includes two engaging online events that cover key seasonal topics. The webinars are free, presented by horticulture experts, and open to the public. Each session is held live online at 1:30 p.m. on select Tuesdays. Participants must register in advance to attend.
The first session, “Be a Seed Shaker: Which Are Worth Saving?” will be held on September 30. This session will help gardeners learn how to harvest flower seeds, such as from zinnias, after the growing season.
Attendees will gain practical knowledge on identifying the right time to collect seeds and how to prepare them for next year’s planting.
The second session, “Reclaiming Runaway Landscapes,” will take place on October 21. This webinar is perfect for those struggling with overgrown or neglected garden spaces.
Gardeners will discover how to bring order back to their yards using mulch, smart design choices, and proper weeding tools. Educators will also guide attendees on how to decide which plants to keep and which to remove.
The sessions will be led by Extension horticulture experts Chris Lueking, Kim Rohling, and Chris Enroth.
Can’t attend live? Recordings will be available on the Illinois Extension Horticulture YouTube channel approximately two weeks after the event.
For accessibility needs, contact Gemini Bhalsod for seed saving at gbhalsod@illinois.edu and Andrew Holsinger for landscapes at aholsing@illinois.edu. Early accommodation requests are encouraged.
