The Compost Ambassador Training is a comprehensive program designed to help individuals improve their composting skills and become leaders in promoting sustainable waste practices within their communities. Taking place from April 2 to April 30, 2025, the course includes five online classes and an optional in-person workshop.
Participants will attend virtual sessions every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. These live classes will be held via Zoom and will cover a wide range of topics, such as the benefits of composting, how to compost at home, the science behind decomposition, compost quality, and how to promote composting in local communities.
Throughout the course, participants will also have access to an online learning platform where they can interact with instructors and fellow learners, access additional resources, and complete assignments at their own pace. After completing the virtual sessions, attendees are invited to join an optional in-person workshop. This hands-on experience will be held at various Illinois Extension Demonstration sites. It will include compost system demonstrations, practical composting techniques, and networking opportunities, with lunch included.
The course is open to residents of several Illinois counties, including Cook, Lake, McHenry, DuPage, Kane, Champaign, and more. Separate registration links are provided based on location.
To participate, individuals must pay a $40 registration fee and are expected to attend the virtual classes and engage with course materials. This program is ideal for those who are passionate about the environment and want to educate others about sustainable composting practices.
