The University of Illinois Extension is now accepting registrations for its 2025–2026 Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) training clinics.
These in-person sessions are designed to promote safe and responsible pesticide application across Illinois, supporting applicators with essential safety knowledge and certification opportunities.
The statewide clinics, held from December through April, will offer both classroom-style training and testing.
According to Michelle Wiesbrook, Extension specialist in weed science with PSEP, “Located around the state, each in-person clinic offers classroom-style training and testing.” Participants are encouraged to register early, as seating is limited and some locations are expected to fill quickly.
Training sessions last approximately three and a half hours, followed by testing. The registration fee is $45 for General Standards or Private Applicator and $25 for each specialty category, such as Field Crops, Rights of Way, Mosquito, Turfgrass, and Ornamentals.
Clinics are offered in one- or two-day formats. Attendees should review schedules carefully to avoid time conflicts when selecting categories.
Registration and payment must be completed in advance at go.illinois.edu/PSEP or by calling 800-644-2123. For those who prefer flexibility, online training modules and testing are also available through the PSEP website.
Updated training manuals and workbooks can be purchased from the Illinois Extension Distribution Services webstore or local Extension offices.
New applicators or those seeking additional details about the licensing process can refer to the Illinois Pesticide Review Newsletter.
For accessibility or other inquiries, participants may contact Jonathan Jackson, PSEP program assistant, at jjack74@illinois.edu or 217-244-2827. Early requests for accommodation are encouraged.
