Invasive species pose a significant threat to Illinois ecosystems, impacting forests, lakes, and farmland. The Illinois Invasive Species Symposium 2024, set for May 22 in Champaign, offers vital tools and knowledge for combating these challenges.
Hosted by the University of Illinois Extension for nine years running, this symposium gathers environmental stewards to explore research updates, management strategies, and success stories. With Illinois ranking fifth in the U.S. for invasive species introductions, the need for effective management is clear.
Attendees will delve into topics like the spotted lanternfly update, zebra mussel mitigation, invasive tick tracking, and restoration projects. An open Q&A panel discussion will also address the state of invasive species in Illinois.
Join industry professionals, landowners, farmers, volunteers, and others at the Champaign County Extension Office on May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Register by May 15 at go.illinois.edu/InvasiveSymposium for $20, which includes lunch.
