Illinois is set to welcome 21 international buyers from six different countries during the 2025 Illinois Grain Tour, running August 25-28.
Organized by the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA), the four-day event aims to build strong trade connections and increase export sales of Illinois-grown products.
Buyers from Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic will take part in the tour. According to IDOA Director Jerry Costello II, the event is a valuable platform for Illinois farmers and agribusinesses to engage directly with potential global customers.
“Illinois is the top producer of soybeans and second in corn. Nearly half of that production is sold internationally,” he said, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in today’s competitive market.
The Illinois Grain Tour has a strong track record of success. In 2024, it resulted in projected sales of $159 million. This year’s tour will once again include key stops showcasing the state’s agricultural strengths.
Participants will visit Melvin Price Locks & Dam, Seifert Farms, Clarkson Grain, Marquis Energy, Syngenta Research & Development Center, AgResource Company, Illinois Soybean Association, GSI, and Seedburo Equipment Company. They will also attend the Farm Progress Show and meet with representatives from Delong Company.
Throughout the tour, international visitors will experience Illinois’ advanced grain handling, production, and research facilities. By connecting with farmers, producers, and industry leaders face-to-face, the buyers will gain deeper insight into the quality and reliability of Illinois agriculture.
All participants are required to cover their own airfare and pay a participation fee. This approach ensures that buyers attending are genuinely committed to building long-term trade relationships.
With global markets facing uncertainty due to tariffs and international tensions, Illinois’ proactive approach helps secure lasting partnerships. The tour emphasizes Illinois’ role as a leader in agriculture and a trusted supplier for global buyers.
