The Illinois Farm Bureau recently advocated for stronger regulations on CO2 pipelines during its annual meeting. The focus was on protecting property owners' rights and bolstering safety measures in the agricultural sector.
One significant resolution urged legislation to halt the use of eminent domain for CO2 pipelines, emphasizing property owners' rights. Additionally, there was a call for a pause in CO2 pipeline development until federal safety measures are thoroughly established to ensure safety before further progress.
Another resolution demanded developers to show progress in securing necessary easements before project approval, ensuring thorough risk assessment.
Lan Richart, from the Coalition to Stop CO2 Pipelines, praised the Farm Bureau's commitment to these resolutions. Despite legislation not advancing this year, efforts will continue in 2024, supported by the Farm Bureau's backing.
