Illinois Agronomy Events Empower Smart Farming

By Andi Anderson

With harvest season completed and spring planting on the horizon, Illinois farmers are preparing for the 2026 growing season.

The University of Illinois Extension is organizing a series of Agronomy Summits throughout January and February 2026 to help producers, agronomists, and agriculture professionals plan ahead with confidence.

These in-person summits will bring together experts from the university and the agriculture industry to share the latest research-based insights on topics like soil health, nutrient management, pest control, market trends, and new technologies.

Participants will gain practical tools, research updates, and valuable networking opportunities to strengthen their farming operations.

According to commercial agriculture educator Kathryn Seebruck, “Agronomy Summits are designed to bring the latest research and resources directly to local communities. Our goal is to provide timely, relevant information that producers can apply immediately on their farms.”

Farmers who attended past summits found the sessions highly informative and appreciated how each topic directly supported their field operations. Agricultural advisors also praised the events for helping them guide their clients with the latest agricultural knowledge.

The 2026 Agronomy Summits will be held across multiple Illinois locations, including Peoria (Jan. 12), Fairfield (Jan. 22), Freeport (Jan. 28), Waterloo (Feb. 3), Oglesby (Feb. 5), Joliet (Feb. 10), Springfield (Feb. 17), and Clark County (Feb. 24). Each summit includes lunch, engaging sessions, and Certified Crop Adviser continuing education units.

Farmers are encouraged to register online at their preferred location. Early registration is recommended, especially for participants requiring accommodation. These summits represent a key opportunity for Illinois farmers to prepare for a successful and sustainable 2026 growing season.
