Lake County 2025 garden learning series goes virtual

The University of Illinois Extension is excited to announce the Lake County 2025 Garden Learning Series. This free virtual program offers monthly sessions from February to December 2025, focusing on various gardening topics. Sessions are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM via Zoom.

Expert presenters, including Master Gardeners, educators, and ecologists from the Lake County Forest Preserve District and SWALCO, will lead the sessions. Registration is required for each session and closes the Tuesday before the event. Zoom links and materials are sent to participants on the presentation day.

Session Highlights

Seed Starting for Vegetable Gardens (February 12, 2025): Learn seed-starting techniques for vegetables, annuals, and perennials. Master Gardeners will share tips on light, water, and growing mediums to kickstart your garden.

Successful Vegetable Gardening (March 12, 2025): Discover research-based methods for planning and maintaining a productive vegetable garden. Topics include garden layout, pest control, and harvesting.

Celebrating Compost (April 9, 2025): Explore the benefits of composting for your garden and the planet. SWALCO will provide insights into composting methods, tools, and upcoming events during International Compost Awareness Week.

Participants can register for individual sessions through dedicated links. This program offers a unique opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to gain practical knowledge from experts and engage with the gardening community.
