Beef cattle breeders looking for top-quality bulls found success at the recent Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale. Held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, the event averaged $4,966 for the 43 bulls sold.
"This sale is a longstanding source of excellent genetics for Midwest beef producers," said Travis Meteer, the Sale Manager. Over the past 56 years, the sales have sold nearly 5,000 bulls for a total exceeding $9.8 million.
The sale featured both yearling and older bulls from multiple breeds, including Angus and Simmental. Notably, a yearling Angus bull from Kramer Farms in Illinois topped the sale at $8,500. This bull found a new home at Crosby Farms in Indiana.
Other high sellers included Simmental bulls. The top senior Simmental, consigned by Bob Fitzpatrick of Illinois, sold for $8,250 to a buyer in Missouri. Additionally, a yearling Simmental from Rincker Simmentals in Illinois reached $7,000.
The Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale is a collaborative effort between the University of Illinois Extension, the university's Department of Animal Sciences, and participating breeders. The sale also benefits from industry support from various companies.
