The Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing (iFAB) Tech Hub will host a significant visit on September 12 as part of the Biotech Across America Roadshow.
U.S.Senator Tammy Duckworth, staff from U.S. Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski’s office, and members of the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) will gather at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to highlight the importance of biotechnology innovation in agriculture and biomanufacturing.
Backed by a $51 million investment from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the iFAB Tech Hub unites a broad consortium of partners committed to advancing precision fermentation and agricultural biomanufacturing. This initiative is designed to drive economic growth while positioning Illinois as a leader in emerging biotechnology.
The visit will begin at the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Lab (IBRL) at 1:45 p.m., where NSCEB Commissioners Angela Belcher and Paul Arcangeli will deliver remarks. At 2 p.m., a roundtable discussion will take place featuring Senator Duckworth, NSCEB Commissioners, and iFAB leadership, offering insights into the future of agricultural and biotechnology policy.
From 2:45 to 4 p.m., the event will continue with a showcase and facility tours. Media participants will be guided through the Integrated Bioprocessing Research Lab and the Pilot Processing Plant, which are part of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at Illinois.
These departments play a crucial role in agricultural and food science research, connecting innovation directly to practical applications.
“This event reflects the national focus on developing biotechnology that benefits both agriculture and the economy,” organizers noted. “It is an opportunity to highlight Illinois leadership in this field.”
Though attendance is by invitation only, media are encouraged to RSVP to cover the event, hear key remarks, and observe the showcase of advanced agricultural research and biomanufacturing technologies.
