Richard Guebert Jr. Concludes Final Term as IFB President with 48th Crop Planting

Richard Guebert Jr., a prominent farmer from Randolph County, Illinois, is embarking on the planting of his 48th crop, signifying the end of his tenure as the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) president. Serving as the 15th IFB president from 2013 to 2023, Guebert is looking ahead to the future with enthusiasm and has no plans of slowing down. Previously, he held the position of IFB vice president from 2003 to 2013.

Guebert attributes the success of his farm to the unwavering support of his wife Nancy, their son Kyle, and dedicated employees who have maintained operations while he fulfilled his leadership responsibilities within the IFB. Celebrating 51 years of marriage, Guebert recognizes Nancy as the cornerstone of their farming enterprise.

Reflecting on his early years in agriculture, Guebert reminisces about the challenges and triumphs they faced as they established their own farm. He recalls purchasing their first farm in 1980 and weathering lean times, including a significant decline in land values and soaring interest rates. However, with a well-crafted business plan and determination, they overcame those obstacles.

Despite the current uncertainties in farming, Guebert remains optimistic about the upcoming season. Higher input costs, rising interest rates, and volatile commodity prices pose challenges, but abundant rainfall and favorable prices bring hope. Guebert plans to cultivate corn and soybeans this year, utilizing efficient machinery to optimize the planting process.

Richard Guebert Jr., wrapping up his tenure as IFB president, looks ahead to a future of travel and family time. With a strong faith and trust in God, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of dedication and impact in agriculture.
