Illinois Wheat Board Election Set for October 30

Illinois Wheat Board Election Set for October 30

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced that the Illinois Wheat Development Board election will take place on October 30, 2025. The board plays a key role in promoting innovation, marketing, and research efforts for wheat producers across the state.

Director Jerry Costello II highlighted the importance of grower participation in maintaining Illinois’ agricultural strength and food supply. “By working together and sharing their perspectives, growers can help ensure continued innovation, market growth, and long-term success for the industry,” he said.

Several producers have qualified for the election ballot. At-Large candidates include Brandon Warren from Wayne County and John Howell from Randolph County, with one open position.

District II candidate Dean Campbell represents Madison County; District III has Ross Holscher from Crawford County; District IV features Steve Launis from Washington County; and District VI includes Jamie Harvel from Clay County. Districts I and V currently have no candidates.

Qualified wheat producers interested in serving as board members may also participate as write-in candidates. To be eligible, candidates must be of legal voting age, reside in the district they wish to represent, and actively produce wheat.

Absentee ballots are available by contacting the Illinois Department of Agriculture at 217-524-1083 or by emailing agr.marketnews@illinois.gov. Voting will take place in person at local county Farm Bureau offices during regular business hours.

For more details, producers can reach the Illinois Department of Agriculture or the Illinois Wheat Association. This election marks an important opportunity for growers to shape the direction of the state’s wheat industry through leadership and collaboration.
