The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) has released new economic findings showing the powerful role that pork production plays in the state’s economy.
According to the report, the Illinois pork industry generates more than $373 million in total tax revenue, reflecting the significant value pig farmers bring to their communities and to the state as a whole.
Illinois continues to rank among the top pork-producing states in the country. The industry’s impact reaches far beyond pig farms, supporting more than 57,000 jobs across a wide supply chain.
These jobs include on-farm workers, feed suppliers, veterinarians, trucking companies, processing plants, equipment dealers, and many small businesses across urban and rural regions. Each part of the supply chain plays an important role in keeping pork production strong and efficient.
IPPA President Josh Maschhoff highlighted the industry’s commitment, saying, “Illinois pig farmers are committed to feeding families, supporting their communities, and strengthening the state’s economy.
The tax revenue and jobs created by pork production demonstrate just how essential this industry is to Illinois’ economic well-being.”
Economic benefits are felt in nearly every county in Illinois. Pork farms contribute to local school funding, municipal and county tax bases, rural job growth, demand for grain, and increased business for local service providers such as construction, transportation, and equipment services. These contributions help strengthen rural communities and keep local economies active.
The pork industry also plays an important role in supporting Illinois crop farmers. Pig farms rely heavily on corn and soybeans, creating a steady and reliable market for grain producers across the state. This connection helps farmers remain competitive and strengthens Illinois agriculture as a whole.
To help residents better understand these impacts, IPPA provides detailed county-by-county economic data on its website. Community leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders can explore how pork production supports employment and revenue in their local areas.
The new findings highlight the importance of pork production not only as a food source but also as a major contributor to the economic health and long-term development of communities throughout Illinois.
