Illinois Holiday Market Moves Indoors Amid Winter Weather Forecasts

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Product Holiday Market is moving indoors this year as winter weather brings near-freezing temperatures to the weekend. Instead of being held at the “Y Block” in downtown Springfield, the event will now take place inside Union Station at 500 East Madison Street.

The new location is directly across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, making it convenient and comfortable for all visitors.

The three-day market, scheduled for December 5, 6, and 7, features a large variety of Illinois-made products that make thoughtful seasonal gifts. “We are grateful to our state agency partners for making Union Station available for the comfort of our shoppers and vendors,” said Jackie Sambursky, Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Bureau Chief of Marketing. “The market features live music, Illinois wine, and unique local products that make perfect gifts for everyone on your shopping list.”

Many well-known vendors will participate, including Rolling Lawns Farm, Jon Ellis Woodworking, Twyford BBQ, MKS Meats, Custom Cup Coffee, and Berries and Flour: Bakery and Harvest Goods. Visitors can enjoy ready-to-eat foods such as pierogies and Polish sausage while shopping.

Families are encouraged to attend, as the market offers free activities for children. Kids can make ornaments, write letters to Santa, and meet Santa himself during scheduled hours each day. Live music will also be available throughout the event at no additional cost.

For adults aged 21 and older, Illinois Wine will host a tasting experience featuring seven wineries from across the state. Entry to the wine tent costs $10 and includes six tasting tickets and a special commemorative tumbler.

The market is supported by several organizations, including the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Wine, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Downtown Springfield Inc., and the Sangamon Mass Transit District.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has also announced the return of its popular Illinois Product Holiday Box. Shoppers can choose between two curated boxes priced at $60 and $40. These boxes highlight locally made products from across Illinois.

Market hours are Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Santa available at designated times.
