Illinois Fruit Vegetable School 2026 Knowledge Boost

By Andi Anderson

Growing fruits and vegetables requires skill, planning, and access to trusted information. Weather changes, insect pressure, and plant diseases often create challenges that affect crop quality and farm income.

To help growers manage these concerns, Illinois Extension is hosting the 2026 Southern Illinois Fruit and Vegetable School, an educational event designed to provide research-based knowledge and practical solutions.

The program will take place on February 11, 2026, at the Doubletree Meeting and Event Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with registration opening at 7:45 a.m. Lunch will not be provided, allowing participants to plan their day according to their own needs.

This annual school is designed for fruit and vegetable growers across southern Illinois and nearby areas. It delivers up-to-date research, proven field practices, and expert guidance that growers can apply directly to their farms.

Participants will learn from industry specialists who focus on real-world production needs and current farming trends.

The 2026 school features four educational tracks. These include vegetable production, tree fruit, small fruit, and cut flower production. This structure allows growers to choose sessions that best match their crops and operations.

Topics will cover insect and disease management, crop care, and production strategies that support healthy plants and improved yields.

Spray guides for 2026 will be available for purchase at the event for $15. These guides provide useful reference material to help growers make informed decisions throughout the growing season.

Advance registration is $35 per farm if completed on or before February 1, 2026. Registrations after this date or at the door will cost $50 per farm. This pricing encourages early planning and helps organizers prepare materials for participants.

Illinois Extension also ensures the program is accessible to all. Growers who need reasonable accommodations are encouraged to contact Horticulture Educator Christina Leuking early to allow enough time for arrangements.

Overall, the 2026 Southern Illinois Fruit and Vegetable School offers a valuable opportunity for growers to strengthen their knowledge, improve production practices, and increase farm profitability through trusted research and expert instruction.
