As spring advances, farmers in Illinois are busy planting their crops, and many are making excellent progress. The latest Crop Progress Report from the USDA shows that planting progress for corn and soybeans in the top-producing states is ahead of the five-year average.
Illinois is one of the leading states, with 18 percent of corn planted as of the week ending April 23rd, seven points ahead of the state's five-year average. Similarly, 15 percent of soybeans have been planted, nine percent ahead of the five-year average.
However, not all farmers are having the same luck, as some areas have seen heavy rainfall that has delayed planting. The variability in weather patterns in different parts of the state means that some farmers have already wrapped up their planting while others are still waiting for the soil to dry out enough to begin.
Despite the challenges posed by unpredictable weather patterns, Illinois farmers are doing their best to make good progress on their crop planting for the year.
