ICGA Pushes Grassroots Efforts for Year-Round E15 Access

ICGA Pushes Grassroots Efforts for Year-Round E15 Access

By Andi Anderson

Ethanol advocacy in the United States has reached an important turning point, and the Illinois Corn Growers Association is increasing its grassroots efforts to ensure farmers’ voices are heard at the national level.

The organization is focused on expanding access to E15 fuel and strengthening demand for U.S.-grown corn.

Congress is currently debating whether to include the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act in an upcoming federal funding package.

If approved, this legislation would allow year-round and unrestricted sales of E15 across the country. Supporters believe this move would expand fuel choices for consumers while also creating stronger and more stable demand for corn used in ethanol production.

Momentum around the issue continues to grow, with lawmakers showing increased interest in addressing ethanol policy.

Staff members from the Illinois Corn Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association are actively engaging with members of Congress. Their efforts include meetings, phone calls, and direct conversations on Capitol Hill to encourage support for the legislation.

However, industry leaders stress that farmer involvement is critical to achieving success. “Lawmakers need to hear directly from the people who will be impacted most,” ICGA President and Illinois farmer Mark Bunselmeyer emphasized. “Grassroots advocacy is what turns conversations into action.”

The association is encouraging corn farmers to take immediate steps by contacting their elected representatives and urging them to support the inclusion of the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act in pending funding legislation.

To make participation easier, ICGA has provided a draft letter that growers can use as a starting point. Farmers are also encouraged to personalize their messages by sharing details about their 2025 profitability challenges, relationships with local ethanol plants, or their commitment to supporting rural communities.

These personal stories play a key role in showing how year-round E15 access can support farm income, strengthen rural economies, and offer consumers affordable and lower-carbon fuel options. “This is a moment where every voice matters,” Bunselmeyer said. “Together, we can help fuel the E15 across the finish line.”

Corn growers are urged to act quickly and help ensure ethanol remains a priority as Congress finalizes its funding decisions.
