Western Illinois University (WIU) has welcomed Dusti Ingles as an assistant professor of Agricultural Education in the School of Agriculture. Ingles, a native of Rushville, Illinois, brings both local understanding and advanced academic training to the program.
A 2017 graduate of WIU’s teacher education program, Ingles taught high school agriculture in Illinois for three years before earning her master’s degree and Ph.D. in Agricultural Education from Iowa State University. Her return to WIU reflects a desire to continue the tradition of excellence she experienced as a student.
“I was inspired by Dr. Andrew Baker’s impact on teachers in the state,” Ingles shared, emphasizing her goal of supporting future agricultural educators.
Keela Trennepohl, Director of the School of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of Ingles’ appointment. “Her excitement to join our team, enthusiasm to help students succeed and vision to recruit students and serve the students of FFA across Illinois make her an undeniable asset to the School of Agriculture,” Trennepohl said.
Ingles’ decision to return was also influenced by WIU’s recognition as an Opportunity University by the Carnegie Foundation.
As a first-generation college graduate, she values the university’s mission of increasing graduates’ socioeconomic status and its commitment to academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility.
Now back in her home region, Ingles is eager to contribute to the community she deeply cares about. Her expertise and passion for teaching will help guide the next generation of agricultural leaders, ensuring the School of Agriculture continues to thrive and support students across Illinois and beyond.
