Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, oh, for sure That's what friends are for For good times and for bad times I'll be on your side forevermore That's what friends are for ~Dionne Warwick, That’s What Friends Are For
Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays with friends or family, as well as a little break from work. Special shout-out to those veterinarians who covered emergency services while the rest of us had some time to celebrate.
We all know that the start of a new year is a time when many people reflect and make some New Year’s resolutions. And I want to recommend one New Year’s resolution that will be easy for you to keep. It has nothing to do with eating better, exercising more, or going to sleep at a reasonable time (as great as those resolutions may be). I need you to resolve to help me celebrate the 60th anniversary of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation!
60 years of helping the veterinary profession
The AVMF, the charitable arm of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), is truly a friend to the profession—and it’s with us and for us, through good times and bad. It does so many things on behalf of our profession. The AVMF has very worthy funding priorities that include disaster relief, crisis support, animal health research, education, and charitable veterinary care for those who might not otherwise be able to access care for their animals. The underlying theme running through all of the AVMF’s funding priorities is support for the wellbeing of our colleagues and our health care teams, the animals we care for, and the people who love them.
Through the AVMF, AVMA’s members and supporters (that includes you!) are making a significant difference. Together, we’re supporting individuals and communities impacted by natural disasters and other emergencies, those who cannot afford veterinary care, and veterinary students and technicians pursuing their education.
So how can you keep your resolution to support the AVMF and help celebrate its 60th anniversary? I invite you to join me in this important endeavor by helping the AVMF raise $60,000 to celebrate 60 years of helping veterinarians help each other and help animals. Make your gift today.
I’ve made my gift (probably the only resolution I will keep!). I hope you’ll join me!
Happy New Year to you, and happy birthday to the AVMF!
