Winter wheat harvested area in Illinois in 2022 is forecast at 720,000 acres, up 18 percent from the previous year. The winter wheat yield is forecast at 79 bushels per acre, equal to 2021. Production is forecast at 56.9 million bushels, up 18 percent from last year.
Winter wheat production for the nation was forecast at 1.20 billion bushels, up 2% from the June 1 forecast and down 6% from 2021. Based on July 1 conditions, the United States yield is forecast at 48.0 bushels per acre, down 0.2 bushels from last month and down 2.2 bushels from last year. The expected area to be harvested for grain or seed totals 25.0 million acres, down 2% from last year.
