Illinois Dairyman Joe Price Earns Prestigious Klussendorf MacKenzie Award

By Andi Anderson

Joe Price of Chebanse, Illinois, has been named the recipient of the 35th Klussendorf-MacKenzie Award, one of the dairy industry's most respected honors. The award was presented during World Dairy Expo 2026 and recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence, leadership, dedication, and strong character within the dairy sector.

The Klussendorf-MacKenzie Award is given in memory of Duncan MacKenzie, the 1961 Klussendorf Award winner. Recipients are selected for their achievements and their commitment to supporting and advancing the dairy industry. Joe Price was chosen because his career reflects the values and standards represented by this prestigious recognition.

Price's passion for dairy cattle began at a very young age. When he was only 13 years old, his family's farm was sold, and he took on the responsibility of caring for show heifers at his uncle's farm. This early experience helped shape his future in the dairy industry and taught him the importance of hard work, responsibility, and attention to detail.

Through careful herd management, strong feeding programs, and a constant focus on improvement, Price built a reputation as a skilled cattleman. His dedication was evident in the show ring, where he achieved notable success as a junior exhibitor. He earned seven Junior All-American honors from 21 nominations and exhibited two All-Americans and one Reserve All-American from eight nominations.

As his career progressed, Price developed an outstanding dairy herd known for its quality and performance. Before the herd was dispersed in 2010, it maintained a 112.1 Breed Age Average on 41 animals. Every cow in the herd was classified as either Very Good or Excellent, and the rolling herd average exceeded 28,000 pounds of milk production. These accomplishments demonstrated his commitment to breeding and managing high-performing dairy cattle.

Later, Joe Price became General Manager of Butlerview Farm, where he has spent the past 16 years helping build the operation's reputation for excellence. During his leadership, the farm achieved numerous championships and produced hundreds of All-American and All-Canadian award-winning animals. His contributions have played an important role in the farm's ongoing success.

Beyond awards and championships, Price is widely respected for his willingness to help others. He is known for sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and encouraging young people to pursue careers in the dairy industry. His leadership has positively influenced many individuals and helped develop future dairy professionals.

One of the qualities that sets Price apart is his commitment to developing strong people alongside strong cattle programs. His influence extends beyond farm operations and show competitions, leaving a lasting impact on the broader dairy community.

For his lifelong dedication, humility, leadership, and commitment to excellence, Joe Price is a deserving recipient of the Klussendorf-MacKenzie Award. His career serves as an example of how hard work, passion, and mentorship can strengthen the dairy industry and inspire future generations.
