Clanin Creative, a design agency based in Champaign, has achieved a significant milestone by being named one of 10 finalists in the Illinois Flag Commission’s design contest. Their submission was selected from over 5,000 entries, highlighting their creativity and connection to Illinois’ identity.
The agency expressed surprise and excitement at being recognized among the top designs. According to Scott Clanin, Owner and Director of Clanin Creative, the team aimed to create a design that honors Illinois’ agricultural heritage.
“In our design, we really wanted to make sure we paid respect to our farmers. We are one of the only designs in the top ten that do pay respect to our agriculture being the heart of our economy,” Clanin said.
Colleen Hayes, the graphic designer behind the submission, emphasized the importance of simplicity and timelessness in the design. The team’s focus on agriculture reflects its role as the cornerstone of Illinois’ economy.
Voting for the 10 finalist designs will begin in January. Illinois residents will have the opportunity to choose from the new designs, the current state flag, or two former flag designs. The contest is free, and no taxpayer money is being used for the initiative.
This recognition marks a significant achievement for Clanin Creative, highlighting their dedication to community values and creativity. Their design underscores the importance of agriculture in Illinois and serves as a testament to the state’s deep agricultural roots.
Illinois residents are encouraged to participate in the voting process to decide the next flag that represents their state. For Clanin Creative, this recognition is a proud moment regardless of the final outcome, showcasing their commitment to representing Illinois’ heritage.
