Illinois Corn and Soybean Progress on Par with Averages

There were 4.5 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 78.6 degrees, 4.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.50 inches, 0.60 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 16 percent short, 58 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent very short, 18 percent short, 64 percent adequate and 12 percent surplus.

Corn silking reached 96 percent, even with the 5-year average. Corn dough reached 55 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 60 percent. Corn dented reached 2 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 10 percent. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 90 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 89 percent. Soybeans setting pods reached 61 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 67 percent. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 50 percent good, 20 percent excellent.
