USDA Begins Survey of Illinois Farmers
Illinois Ag Connection - 09/20/2023

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS) has begun surveying Illinois farmers about their chemical use and production costs. The survey is part of the agency's 2023 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS).

The ARMS survey tracks how Illinois farms use technology to manage production of their major field crops. The data from the survey is used by policymakers and farm groups to understand the factors driving the costs and returns of crop production.

In Illinois, the survey will specifically target oats and soybeans. NASS is asking farmers to have their fertilizer and pesticide application records available to speed up the survey process.

Farmers will be contacted by a NASS representative to schedule an interview. The survey is confidential and the information provided will be used for statistical purposes only.

The ARMS survey is an important tool for tracking the health of the agricultural sector and for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing farmers. Farmers are encouraged to participate in the survey to help ensure that their voices are heard.
