State Puts Out Call for Disposing of Agrichemicals

The state is offering people the chance to get rid of unwanted or unneeded agricultural chemicals safely and for free.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture’s "Clean Sweep" program will include collection points in Jersey and Macoupin counties.

West-central Illinois collection sites include Jersey County Soil and Water Conservation District at 604 E. Franklin St. in Jerseyville, Macoupin County Soil and Water Conservation District at 300 Carlinville Plaza in Carlinville and Macoupin Farm Bureau at 220 N. Broad St. in Carlinville.

Participants must register before July 28. Forms are available by calling 1-800-641-3934 and on the agriculture department website at agr.illinois.gov.

The service is free through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, according to bureau chief of environmental programs Brad Beaver.
