Illinois Corn, Soybean Progress Slightly Behind Average



There were 6.0 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 72.5 degrees, 1.1 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.20 inches, 0.56 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 24 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent very short, 22 percent short, 66 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.

Corn dough reached 85 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 91 percent. Corn dented reached 46 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 61 percent. Corn mature reached 3 percent, compared to the 5-yaer average of 7 percent. Corn condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 20 percent excellent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 86 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent. Soybean condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 48 percent good, 18 percent excellent.
