Agritourism Workshop Empowers Illinois Farmers to Diversify Farms

Agritourism Workshop Empowers Illinois Farmers to Diversify Farms

By Andi Anderson

Farmers across Illinois are exploring new ways to connect with the public and boost their income. One popular option is agritourism, which combines agriculture and tourism to offer unique on-farm experiences.

To help farmers take the first step, The Land Connection is hosting a workshop titled Planning for Agritourism in Illinois on Tuesday, July 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Delight Flower Farm in Champaign.

This interactive event is ideal for farmers and local food growers interested in adding an agritourism enterprise to their existing operations.

With a growing interest from urban residents in rural experiences, agritourism has become a promising way to diversify income while educating the public.

Participants will enjoy a guided tour of Delight Flower Farm and attend an expert-led panel discussion. Topics include financial planning, insurance, risk management, zoning, taxes, permits, marketing, and best practices for running a successful agritourism business.

The panel features experienced professionals who will share strategies and answer questions. Whether attendees are planning a U-pick flower farm, hosting educational workshops, or offering seasonal events, they will gain tools and resources to move forward.

The cost to attend is $15, which includes light refreshments. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with fellow farmers, learn from current agritourism operators, and get inspired by the success story of the host farm, which has been running for over a decade.

This workshop provides a great opportunity for farmers to think creatively, explore new income streams, and turn their farms into memorable destinations for visitors across Illinois. Early registration is recommended due to limited space.
