The 2025 Illinois State Fair is set to begin on August 7 in Springfield with the exciting theme “Adventure Awaits.” This year’s fair promises a journey full of fun, community pride, and agricultural celebration.
The fair kicks off with the beloved Illinois State Fair Twilight Parade at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 7.
The parade, a Springfield tradition, begins in Lincoln Park, moves down Sangamon Avenue, enters the fairgrounds through the Main Gate, and continues past the Grandstand before exiting through Lot 21. It features school bands, community groups, classic cars, and colorful floats that reflect the fair’s spirit.
Parade entry applications are open until July 8. Groups interested in joining the fun can visit the fair’s official website or call the Special Events office.
“The Twilight Parade is the perfect way to kick off this adventure,” said Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Fair Manager Rebecca Clark added, “We encourage families to grab a lemon shake-up, find a spot along the route, and enjoy this time-honored tradition.”
Opening day will also include several exciting deals. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 12. Carnival rides open at noon, with all rides costing just $3. A “Double the Fun” parking deal offers free return parking on August 12, 13, or 14 if visitors pay to park on opening day.
The action continues in the evening with “Monsters of Destruction” at The Arena at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are advised to use Gate 6 to avoid parade traffic.
Running from August 7 to August 17, the Illinois State Fair invites everyone to explore new experiences, enjoy entertainment, and celebrate Illinois agriculture and community spirit.
