Illinois Hog Inventory Up 3 Percent

Illinois inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1, 2020 was 5.50 million head, up 2 percent from March 1, 2020 and up 3 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 570,000 head, was down 10,000 from the previous quarter and down 20,000 from last year.

Market hog inventory, at 4.93 million head, was up 2 percent from last quarter and up 4 percent from last year.

The March-May 2020 pig crop, at 2.97 million head, was up slightly from 2019. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 275,000 head, unchanged from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.80 for the March-May period, compared with 10.75 last year.
