Class of Illinois Pork Future Leaders Announced
Illinois Ag Connection - 02/14/2020

The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) formally announced at their annual meeting the inductees to the 2020 class of Future Leaders. This is the second class of the biannual program.

As the pork industry continues to evolve, IPPA recognizes the need to focus on the future by finding and educating young talent. Keeping the pork industry relevant and educating consumers is a top priority. The development of future leaders is a critical next step to keep the industry moving forward while providing the next generation of pig farmers with the skills and expertise needed to advocate for an ever-changing industry.

Every other year IPPA seeks up-and-coming pork industry candidates, between the ages of 25-40. This two-year program highlights commercial production and encourages young leaders to get involved and be more active in the pork industry. The selected candidates participate in four meetings over the course of the first year. In year two, candidates can attend a legislative fly-in to Washington D.C. along with IPPA directors.

The following thirteen individuals have been named to the Future Leaders 2020 Class:

- Amanda Spinner, Hillsboro

- Amanda Uitermarkt, Kewanee

- Brianne Skien, Carthage

- Corbin Uitermarkt, Kewanee

- Drew Kuhn, Genoa

- Emmalee Haege, Nashville

- Haley Hillyard, Monmouth

- Heather Luth, Carthage

- Jenny Morris, Champaign

- Miranda Biddle, Joy

- Patrick King, Victoria

- Seth Carlson, Oquawka

- Tyler Main, Altona

The program kicks off this May with the first meeting being held in Springfield. Topics of interest will be an overview of the commercial pork industry and a visit to the capitol to visit with legislators.

"I am excited to work with this new group of young leaders in the pork industry" states Jennifer Tirey, IPPA Executive Director. "This program gives our association an opportunity to share our messages and priorities with a diverse crowd of young professionals."
