The USDA is extending the deadline for the Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program (ODMAP) to August 11, 2023. This extension gives organic dairy producers more than two additional weeks to apply for the program.
ODMAP provides financial assistance to organic dairy producers to help them mitigate market volatility, higher input and transportation costs, and unstable feed supply and prices. This assistance will help keep organic dairy operations sustainable until markets return to more normal conditions.
USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) is administering the program and has made $104 million available to organic dairy operations. Eligible producers include certified organic dairy operations that produce milk from cows, goats, and sheep.
To apply for ODMAP, producers must contact their local FSA office. They will need to provide information about their marketing costs in 2022 or their projected marketed production in 2023. FSA will make an initial payment to eligible applicants that is 75% of the calculated assistance amount. If funds remain after the initial payment period, an additional payment may be issued.
The ODMAP application period opened on May 24, 2023 and closes on August 11, 2023. For more information, visit the FSA Dairy Programs webpage.
