Country Road Greenhouses, LLC will hold its 2nd Annual Fall Plant Sale on September 28-29 at its farm near Rochelle, Illinois.

The sale, open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, offers a wide selection of native perennials, grasses, trees, and shrubs grown using the unique Prairie Plugs™ method.

Founded over 40 years ago, Country Road Greenhouses (CRG) continues to support environmental sustainability through its innovative planting solutions.

The Redington family, who owns the greenhouse, have been dedicated to growing native plants that support local ecosystems, such as pollinator-friendly milkweeds, sunflowers, and asters. These plants thrive in diverse conditions, from wetlands to sunny dry areas.

CRG's Prairie Plugs™ are designed for easy planting and quick establishment. The plants are grown in flat containers with a hole at the bottom for simple removal.

This grow method encourages deep root systems, making the plants drought and flood-resistant. Native plants like these are crucial for environmental restoration, landscaping, wetland mitigation, and stabilizing riverbanks.

The greenhouse provides plants to numerous environmental organizations and park districts, including the Friends of the Chicago River and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

Additionally, CRG offers first- and second-year native trees and shrubs, available in three-gallon containers, ideal for enhancing natural landscapes.

Country Road Greenhouses’ facilities include 6,000 square feet of climate-controlled greenhouse space and 20,000 square feet of native plant nursery production.

The production process begins with seeds sown in late fall and stratified in coolers before being transferred to propagation facilities in February. This cycle ensures healthy, mature plants are ready for the growing season.

The Prairie Plug™ method has become a benchmark in the industry, providing healthier plants with vigorous root systems that help restore native habitats quickly.

CRG also supports contract growing for specific environmental projects, tailoring their plant offerings to meet the needs of various sites.

Whether you're looking to restore land, create a native garden, or support pollinators, Country Road Greenhouses provides the plants and expertise to help you "Go Native." Visit the sale to explore a wide selection of native species and learn how you can contribute to preserving local ecosystems.
