The Illinois State Fair 2026 is set to welcome visitors from August 13 to August 23, 2026, in Springfield with its theme, "Miles of Smiles." The fair will offer a mix of exciting attractions, delicious food, family-friendly activities, and educational experiences for people of all ages.
Food lovers can enjoy a wide variety of dishes from more than 120 vendors across the fairgrounds. New vendors will introduce several exciting options, including barbecue specialties, cinnamon rolls, Indian-inspired meals, specialty beverages, soft pretzels, and assorted pickles, meats, and cheeses.
Visitors looking for affordable dining can explore the $5 Fix at the Reisch Pavilion, where featured menu items will be available for just $5. The Small Plates, Big Tastes program in the Village of Cultures will also provide sample-sized dishes for only $3.
One of the highlights of the fair will be the Golden Abe’s Fantastic Fair Food contest, where vendors will compete for top culinary recognition.
Another notable addition is Illinois’s Best Grocery Bagger, sponsored by HyVee, where contestants will demonstrate their grocery bagging skills for a chance to win prizes and advance to national competition.
Families and children will have many engaging activities to enjoy. Dino Encounters will feature animatronic dinosaur rides, museum exhibits, excavation activities, puzzles, and educational stage shows. The popular Milk-A-Cow experience will return, allowing children to learn about dairy farming through hands-on participation.
Agriculture and community involvement will remain important parts of the fair. Sunflower Showmanship will bring together Special Olympics athletes and 4-H livestock exhibitors to celebrate teamwork, skills, and inclusion.
Visitors can also explore Betsy’s Barn in the Ag Tent, where animated farm characters help explain how Illinois agriculture supports food production.
A new gathering spot, the Surfside Social Club, will offer live entertainment, refreshments, and social activities along Route 66. Guests can also participate in the "Great American Sing-Along" held daily.
The fairgrounds hold special significance during the Route 66 Centennial Celebrations. As Route 66 marks 100 years of history, the fair's "Miles of Smiles" theme reflects the memories, culture, and community spirit connected to both the famous highway and the Illinois State Fair.
Through food, entertainment, agriculture, and education, the event promises an enjoyable and memorable experience for all visitors.
