Visitors planning to attend events at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand can make their experience easier and more enjoyable by understanding important guidelines before arriving.
These measures are designed to promote safety, convenience, and a family-friendly atmosphere for everyone.
Security remains a top priority at the fairgrounds. All bags brought onto the grounds are subject to inspection by security personnel or law enforcement officers. Grandstand attendees must also pass through metal detectors before entering event areas.
In addition, a clear bag policy is in effect for all Grandstand activities, including concerts, harness racing, and auto racing. Bags must be clear and no larger than 14 inches by 8 inches. Exceptions apply to diaper bags and medical bags, although these may also be inspected.
Guests leaving the Grandstand during an event should note that they must complete the security screening process again before re-entering.
Several items are prohibited throughout the fairgrounds. These include firearms and other weapons, illegal substances including drugs, laser pointers, drones, and air horns or similar noise makers. Any prohibited items discovered after entry will be confiscated and discarded.
Parking is available through Gates 4, 6, 7, 8, and 11. Grandstand visitors may find Gates 6 and 7 the most convenient. Accessible parking is offered at Gates 4 and 11, along with complimentary tram service available until 8 p.m. daily.
Parking costs $5 per vehicle per day. Guests using rideshare services can be dropped off at the Main Gate located on the south side of the fairgrounds.
Food is allowed inside the Grandstand, but certain beverage restrictions apply. All beverages purchased inside the venue will be opened at the point of sale.
Drinks bought on the track will be served in plastic cups, and bottles, cans, and sealed containers are not permitted in track areas. Outside beverage containers, including reusable cups, are prohibited. Visitors should also remember that Grandstand concession stands operate on a cashless basis.
Party Tent guests must present both a valid concert ticket and a Party Tent ticket for entry. The Party Tent closes when concert gates open, and re-entry is not permitted.
Finally, guests with mobile tickets are encouraged to download them to the Ticketmaster app before arriving to help avoid delays. The 2026 Illinois State Fair will take place from August 13 through August 23 in Springfield.
