Illinois Winter Wheat Planting Essentially Complete



There were 5.2 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 34.5 degrees, 3.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.21 inches, 0.69 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 11 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 12 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Winter wheat planted reached 98 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 100 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 92 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 95 percent. Winter wheat condition was 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 12 percent fair, 68 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.
