The 2026 Illinois State Fair will bring families, visitors, and communities together with more than 160 hours of free entertainment, exciting attractions, agricultural exhibits, and special discount opportunities. Scheduled from August 13 to August 23 in Springfield, the fair aims to provide affordable fun for people of all ages.
Highlighting the fair’s commitment to accessibility, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture Jerry Costello II said, “We are excited to offer a diverse lineup of free entertainment options. Our goal is to ensure the Fair remains accessible to everyone, and we’re committed to keeping it affordable.”
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the event. The Illinois Department of Agriculture Tent will feature Farmer Betsy, Pauline the Pig, and Chuck the Calf, helping guests learn about agriculture through interactive experiences.
Happy Hollow will host free performances by Big Top Adventures every day, featuring jugglers, clowns, trapeze artists, and other circus entertainers. Visitors can also experience Dinosaur Encounters, an interactive attraction that combines educational exhibits with live stage shows.
Additional free entertainment includes harness racing, the Watershow Productions High Dive Show, Kardenni the Magician, Sky High Balloon Guy, and Street Drum Corps performances. Fairgoers can also attend the Amateur Talent Contest and the Sale of Champions, which highlights top agricultural achievements and livestock exhibitors.
Returning for another year is the Dill-inois State Fair Pickleball Showdown, offering both youth and adult divisions. Guests can also visit the free Route 66 Experience, an interactive exhibit celebrating the history and culture of America’s famous highway.
Each evening, visitors can enjoy free concerts at the Grand Central Stage featuring a variety of musical acts throughout the fair.

- Friday, August 14: Agriculture Day
- Saturday, August 15: Kids Day
- Sunday, August 16: Veterans & Gold Star Families Day (Free admission for veterans and their immediate families)
- Monday, August 17: Senior & Scout Day (Free admission for seniors and scouts in uniform)
- Tuesday, August 18: TWOsday ($2 admission for seniors and adults)
- Wednesday, August 19: Governor’s Day
- Thursday, August 20: Republican Day
- Friday, August 21: First Responder & Healthcare Heroes Day (Free admission for first responders and healthcare workers with ID)
- Saturday, August 22: Park District Conservation Day
- Sunday, August 23: Family Day
Discussing the value of these promotions, Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark said, “One of the best parts of the Illinois State Fair is bringing people together to celebrate everything that makes our state special. Our theme days help create fun, affordable opportunities for families to make memories, enjoy new experiences, and discover more about agriculture, our state's number one industry.”
She also added, “From free concerts and daily attractions to family-friendly activities, there's something for everyone to enjoy. We encourage visitors to explore our 2026 Illinois Fair Guide, State Fair website, and updated mobile app before they arrive so they can plan the perfect day and discover all the great experiences waiting for them.”
The 2026 fair theme, Miles of Smiles, recognizes the Route 66 Centennial and celebrates the memories, music, and experiences that have connected generations across Illinois.
