Illinois product holiday market returns to Springfield

Illinois product holiday market returns to Springfield

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) is set to bring the Illinois Product Holiday Market back to downtown Springfield this year. Scheduled for December 1st-3rd on the "Y Block" near the Governor's Mansion, the market is a haven for those looking to purchase local Illinois products.

Visitors can expect a diverse range of offerings suitable for holiday gifting, including local dairy products like egg nog, milk, and cheeses, various sauces and seasonings, fresh and frozen meats, baked goods, candles, and woodworking items. Food vendors will be present, allowing attendees to grab a snack or a meal while soaking in the holiday ambiance.

An exciting feature for those aged 21 and over is a wine tasting experience hosted by Illinois Wine. This tasting will showcase selections from seven wineries across the state, providing a unique opportunity to sample local flavors.

IDOA Director Jerry Costello emphasized the significance of the market as a platform for Illinois entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. The market not only supports local agri-businesses but also contributes to Illinois' primary industry.

Special items like the Illinois State Fair Mega Pass, Jumbo Pass, Discount Admission Book, Seasonal Parking Pass, and the newly introduced Illinois’ Best cookbook will be on sale, offering the season's lowest prices.

Family-friendly activities are a core part of the event. A free holiday workshop will feature crafts, a selfie station, and coloring activities for kids. Santa Claus will make an appearance, and live music will set the festive mood throughout the event.

The Illinois Product Holiday Market hours are as follows:

Friday, December 1: 4pm - 9pm (Santa Visits 5pm-7pm)

Saturday, December 2: 11pm - 6pm (Santa Visits 12pm-3pm)

Sunday, December 3: 11am - 4pm (Santa Visits 11am-2pm)

Sponsors for the event include the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Wine, the Illinois Farm Bureau, Springfield Clinic, Downtown Springfield, Inc., and the Sangamon Mass Transit District.
