The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) is set to host Food and Ag Day on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The celebration will take place before the Illinois vs. Purdue football game, with events scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. at Grange Grove.
This event, designed for all ages, aims to honor the important contributions of the food and agriculture industries. Families can participate in engaging activities, learn more about where their food comes from, and enjoy hands-on experiences in a fun and educational setting.
Several activities are planned for the day, including:
Special Meat Packages:
The College of ACES Meat Science Laboratory will offer specially prepared meat packages for sale. Orders can be placed on the Meat & Egg Sales website until October 7. Each purchase comes with a free set of ACES-branded tongs, making it a perfect addition to any grill master’s toolkit.
Farm Stand Produce:
Visitors can stock up on fresh, locally grown produce from the College of ACES Sustainable Student Farm stand in Grange Grove. This is a great opportunity to purchase farm-fresh ingredients while supporting sustainable agriculture.
Petting Zoo:
A fan-favorite, the petting zoo will return to Grange Grove. Hosted by the College of ACES in collaboration with the Fisher High School FFA Chapter, the petting zoo will feature a variety of farm animals, offering fun and education for the whole family.
Food and Agriculture Exhibits:
The College of ACES and Illinois Extension, including 4-H, will provide interactive exhibits showcasing the journey of food from farm to table. These exhibits will offer a hands-on experience to better understand the impact of agriculture on daily life.
Food and Ag Day promises a memorable pre-game experience, combining educational exhibits with fun activities for the entire community.
