A new wholesale flower marketplace is creating opportunities for flower growers and florists across Central Illinois. The initiative, called the Delight Wholesale Hub, was established to connect local flower producers with florists through a single purchasing platform.
The hub allows florists to browse and buy a wide range of locally grown flowers from multiple farms in one place. This makes it easier for businesses to access fresh products while supporting local agriculture. Many florists previously relied on distant suppliers and imported flowers, often placing orders without seeing the blooms in person.
"My florist friends and I always talk about how florists in big cities have access to a huge flower market where they get to see everything in person and shop. We've never had that here," said Evanson, owner of Flowers by Kristine. "Instead, it's call your wholesaler, imagine in your head how the flowers will look together, then order and hope you get something good."
The wholesale hub was launched by a local flower farm with the goal of strengthening the regional flower industry. By bringing growers together under one system, customers can purchase larger quantities of flowers while farms share inventory and meet demand more effectively.

Currently, the project includes two participating flower farms and is operating in a pilot phase. The initiative has already shown positive results, with participating growers reporting increased wholesale sales and improved business opportunities. Organizers hope to attract more growers in the future and expand the marketplace across the region.
For flower farmers, the hub offers more predictable sales because orders are placed in advance. This helps reduce waste, improve harvesting efficiency, and lowers the risk associated with selling at farmers' markets or other retail channels. Growers can focus more on production while spending less time on marketing and administration.
Florists also benefit from the system by gaining access to fresh, locally grown flowers and a wider variety of products. Weekly pickup options and delivery services help make the process convenient for businesses throughout Illinois, including larger cities.
Beyond the economic benefits, the wholesale hub is helping create stronger relationships between growers and florists. Participants say the project encourages cooperation, knowledge sharing, and community building rather than competition.
