Illinois Fall Field Day Gains Strong New Partnership

By Andi Anderson

The annual Fall Nutrient Field Day in Illinois welcomed farmers, agribusiness professionals, students, researchers, and community members for a day focused on learning and agricultural advancement.

This year, the event achieved a broader reach through a new partnership with the LaSalle County Farm Bureau. The collaboration became part of the Illinois Farm Bureau Nutrient Stewardship Field Day Series, creating greater opportunities for knowledge sharing and community engagement.

The event brought together local producers, educational institutions, agricultural researchers, and industry representatives to discuss the latest developments in nutrient management, crop production, and conservation.

Participants gained valuable insights into research-backed farming practices that can help improve productivity while supporting environmental stewardship.

Emily Hansen, University of Illinois Extension educator, highlighted the importance of the new partnership. She stated, "We were excited to partner with the LaSalle County Farm Bureau this year and become part of the Illinois Farm Bureau Nutrient Stewardship Field Day Series. Our annual field day has always focused on bringing research-based information to students and local farmers, and this partnership allowed us to broaden the event's reach while continuing to showcase the valuable research collaborations taking place at the IVCC and Extension Research and Demonstration Plots."

Attendees had the opportunity to listen to presentations from university researchers and industry experts covering several important agricultural topics.

Discussions focused on biological products, nutrient management approaches, nitrogen rate studies, emerging corn and soybean traits, and crop disease management. These subjects provided practical information that farmers can apply to their operations.

A field tour was also an important part of the program. Participants visited research and demonstration plots where ongoing studies are conducted under local growing conditions. The tour allowed attendees to see agricultural research in action and better understand how new technologies and farming practices can be evaluated before being widely adopted.

The event also showcased the strong partnership between Illinois Extension and Illinois Valley Community College Agriculture. Their demonstration plots serve as valuable learning spaces where students can gain hands-on experience while researchers test innovative solutions for modern farming challenges.

Organizers expressed gratitude to the presenters, sponsors, and partners who supported the event, including Channel Seed, Northern Partners, Illinois Farm Bureau, and the LaSalle County Farm Bureau. Their contributions helped make the program successful and beneficial for attendees.

As agriculture continues to evolve, field days such as this remain important. They provide farmers and agricultural professionals with direct access to expert knowledge, emerging technologies, and practical solutions that support profitability, productivity, and responsible environmental management. Through continued collaboration and education, the event remains a valuable resource for strengthening the future of agriculture in Illinois.
