Even Superhero Farmers Sometimes Need a Helping Hand

The Iowa Learning Farms conservation webinar taking place Nov. 16 at noon CST will feature Sarah Noggle, extension educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources at Ohio State University. Noggle focuses her education and outreach work in Ohio working in the areas of farm management and soil health. She also spends her free time chasing kids and helping on the family farm.

Iowa Learning Farms is an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach conservation and water quality education program.

In the webinar, "Sometimes the Shield is Not Enough," Noggle will discuss the multiple facets of farm management that can add stress to farm life. Portraying farmers as superheroes, she will highlight the many hats most producers wear and some of the "kryptonite" challenges they can face in the course of a day, week, month or year. Drawing on her experiences of farm stress, Noggle will offer stress management strategies that others may find beneficial.

"Farming is not immune to the stigma often associated with stress-related issues, and I want to assure the audience that keeping an eye on neighbors and offering a helping hand when needed is not judgment, it's simply being a good neighbor," said Noggle. "You never know when a simple gesture or action can come at the right place and time to save a life or change an outcome."

Participants in Iowa Learning Farms conservation webinars are encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. People from all backgrounds and areas of interest are encouraged to join.
